Submission Rules:

We encourage anyone who identifies as a girl to submit their pieces for consideration.

Please expect a 4-8 week response time. 

Simultaneous submissions are welcomed and encouraged; however, please inform us upon submission and kindly withdraw if your submission is accepted elsewhere. 

There is no submission fee! :)

We unfortunately cannot afford to pay submitters at this time. We’re hoping to eventually, but as of right now, this mag is run by college students.

We are looking for fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, poetry, and art/photography that focus on girlhood and themes of the Riot Grrrl Movement. 

Fiction/CNF

• may submit up to 2 long format pieces or 3 flash pieces for consideration

• ~500-5,000 words. Though we prefer works under 5,000 words, pieces that are longer may still be submitted and will be considered.

• cannot be chapters from a larger work

• For fiction: genre pieces (fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, etc) are HIGHLY encouraged

Essays

• may submit up to 2 pieces for consideration

• ~500-3,000 words.

• cannot be chapters from a larger work

• maybe be personal, academic, speculative, etc.

Poetry

• may submit up to 3 poems for consideration

• no min/max

• experimental highly encouraged

Art/Photography

• no submission amount cap

• must be made by submitter

• cannot use AI

AI Policies: Here at Grrrl, we believe that the part of what makes art, art, is the humanness of it. We request that any and all pieces submitted do not contain any aspects created by or with the help of AI. If AI has been used, but you feel that you still want to submit, we kindly ask you inform us in your submission.

While we request that pieces submitted have not been published previously, we are open to reviewing published pieces if it aligns with the terms of the former publisher.

Accepted pieces are requested to not be submitted or published anywhere else for at least a year after publishing.
